Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, respectful daily care to geriatric residents to promote comfort and dignity
• Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, toileting, and feeding
• Support safe mobility and transfers while using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
• Observe residents and promptly report changes in condition to the nursing team
• Document care accurately and clearly in resident records and communicate effectively with staff
• Help create a warm, home-like environment by engaging residents in social and recreational activities
• Follow infection control protocols and facility policies to maintain a safe environment

Qualifications

• Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification required
• Current state certification or licensure as required for Maryland facilities
• Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification preferred or willing to obtain
• Current immunizations and TB screening per facility policy
• Strong communication skills, patience, and a passion for working with older adults
• Prior experience in long-term care or geriatric settings is a plus

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an approved GNA program

Knowledge & Skills

• Fundamentals of geriatric nursing care and ADL support
• Safe resident handling and transfer techniques
• Infection prevention and standard precautions
• Accurate documentation and basic charting skills
• Ability to observe, assess, and report changes in resident condition
• Teamwork, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills
