Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting)
- Monitor and report changes in condition to the nursing team promptly
- Perform routine tasks such as vital signs, mobility assistance, and basic treatments
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of care and observations
- Support fall-prevention and infection-control practices to keep residents safe
- Collaborate with nursing staff and interdisciplinary team to deliver consistent care
- Engage residents in social interaction and meaningful daily activities
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (Class: GNA) — required
- Valid state registration/certification as a nursing assistant where applicable
- CPR/BLS certification recommended or preferred
- Comfort working overnight shifts (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Strong communication skills and a caring, patient approach with older adults
- Willingness to complete facility-required background checks and health screenings
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an approved Geriatric Nursing Assistant program or equivalent training
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and dignity-focused care
- Ability to assist with transfers, mobility, and safe patient handling
- Basic clinical skills: taking vital signs, recognizing changes in condition
- Accurate documentation and time-management skills
- Infection control and personal protective equipment (PPE) best practices
- Teamwork and clear communication with nurses and support staff
- Observation skills and timely reporting of concerns
