Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: PRN day shifts; option for half-day (4-hour) or full-day (8-hour) assignments. Days per week vary by site (examples: Susanville, CA — 1 day/week; Crescent City, CA — 2 days/week; Ft Irwin, CA — 1 day/week; Sonora, CA — 1 day/week; Bakersville, CA — 1 day/week). Day shift (specific start/end times vary by facility and will be scheduled per clinic needs).

Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with professionalism and empathy
- Perform thorough medical interviews and targeted physical assessments, including range of motion and muscle strength testing
- Document clear, timely reports and complete necessary addendums and medical opinions
- Follow non-treatment exam protocols — focus on objective findings and accurate reporting (no prescribing or treatment)
- Coordinate with VES for credentialing, scheduling, and submission of required documentation
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to government contractor standards while supporting Veterans
Qualifications
- Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) licensure appropriate to practice (ability to work in the state where assignment is located)
- Clinical background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine
- Experience or familiarity with Compensation & Pension exams preferred
- Comfortable performing interview-based exams and focused physical assessments (range of motion, muscle strength testing)
- Willingness to work PRN/per diem and complete onboarding and any required portal training
- Providers using their own office must have an operational clinical space within a 50-mile radius of the assignment city
- DMA certification and portal experience are a plus
Education
- Graduate degree for NP licensure (Master’s or DNP) — as required to practice as an NP
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong medical interviewing skills and clear, concise report writing
- Proficiency with range of motion and muscle strength assessments
- Ability to read diagnostics and incorporate findings into non-treatment reports
- Experience preparing addendums and medical opinions when needed
- Comfort with government-contracted workflows and documentation requirements
- Attention to detail, time management, and independent decision-making for PRN work
