Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with professionalism and compassion
- Conduct interview-based evaluations to gather medical history and symptom information
- Perform focused physical assessments including range of motion and muscle strength testing
- Complete and submit thorough evaluation reports, including any required addendums
- Provide clear medical opinions and interpret relevant diagnostics when requested
- Follow non-treatment scope — no prescribing or ongoing treatment provided as part of these exams
Qualifications
- Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) in good standing
- Experience or comfort performing Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams or similar medicolegal evaluations preferred
- Clinical background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine welcomed
- Skill in interview-based exams and focused physical assessments (range of motion, muscle strength testing)
- Ability to complete required administrative work (reports, addendums, medical opinions) in a timely manner
- Must be within a 50-mile radius of assigned VES facility or the listed city for provider-office roles when applicable
- Own-office option requires a functional clinical office suitable for veteran exams
Education
- Graduate degree for Nurse Practitioner (MSN or DNP) and active NP certification/license
Knowledge & Skills
- Compensation & Pension (C&P) exam procedures and documentation
- Separation Health Assessment processes
- Interview-based clinical evaluation techniques
- Range of motion testing and muscle strength assessment
- Writing clear medical opinions and addendums
- Reading and interpreting diagnostic reports
- Familiarity with portal systems and DMA-related processes is a plus
