Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub for cardiovascular and general surgical cases across neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
• Prepare and maintain sterile field and surgical instruments to support efficient, safe procedures
• Anticipate surgeon needs and provide necessary instruments and supplies during operations
• Function independently within established protocols to ensure consistent, high-quality patient care
• Document case information and assist with accurate instrument counts and turnover
• Maintain patient confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy in all interactions
• Use electronic systems and basic computer skills to complete documentation and communicate with the care team

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (required for hires post-2009)
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technologist with CVOR specialty experience
• BCLS certification required
• Certification by an approved body preferred or required (NBSTSA - CST or NCCT - TS-C)
• Ability to participate in on-call rotation and respond professionally to urgent surgical needs

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (required for hires post-2009)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proven scrub responsibilities across all age populations
• Ability to function independently within established protocols and unit assignments
• Strong patient confidentiality and professional bedside manner
• Proficient computer and keyboarding skills for documentation
• Familiarity with Cardiovascular OR processes, instrumentation, and specialty workflows
• Sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy in high-pressure situations
