Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based respiratory care and bronchopulmonary hygiene to patients across acuity levels
• Manage mechanical ventilation and perform ventilator checks, weaning trials, and adjustments as ordered
• Perform and interpret arterial blood gases and other respiratory assessments to guide treatment
• Respond to respiratory emergencies and participate in rapid response/crash team interventions
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and adjust patient care plans
• Educate patients and families on respiratory therapies, equipment use, and discharge instructions
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with departmental protocols

Qualifications

• Active Louisiana respiratory care practitioner license or eligible for licensure in LA
• NBRC credential (CRT or RRT) required; RRT preferred
• Current BLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred or able to obtain
• Experience with adult and pediatric ventilator management and ABG interpretation preferred
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy or completion of an accredited respiratory therapy program (Bachelor's preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Mechanical ventilation management and ventilator troubleshooting
• Arterial blood gas collection and interpretation
• Airway management and oxygen therapy modalities
• Pulmonary function testing and aerosolized medication administration
• Clinical assessment, critical thinking, and documentation best practices
• Effective teamwork, communication, and patient education techniques
