Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients in the PACU
• Closely monitor vitals, airway status and level of consciousness to detect changes early
• Administer medications and IV therapies per provider orders and facility protocols
• Perform thorough handoffs and communicate effectively with surgical teams and families
• Document patient assessments, interventions and recovery progress accurately in the chart
• Anticipate and respond to postoperative complications, escalating concerns promptly
• Participate actively in orientation and ongoing education to maintain best practices
• Follow infection control, safety and pain management policies to ensure optimal recovery

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri or appropriate compact privilege
• Clinical experience in PACU and with pediatric patients preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; PALS and/or ACLS preferred depending on facility policy
• Current immunizations and required facility health screenings
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; diploma-trained RNs with required licensure considered

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia assessment and recovery principles for pediatric patients
• Pain assessment and management in the immediate postoperative period
• IV therapy, medication administration and safe dosing practices
• Airway management basics and recognition of respiratory compromise
• Family-centered communication and education during recovery
• Accurate clinical documentation and familiarity with electronic health records
