Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients in the post-anesthesia care setting, ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia
• Administer medications and manage IV therapy according to provider orders and protocols
• Provide skilled airway and pain management while continuously evaluating patient status
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the perioperative team to coordinate smooth transitions of care
• Document patient assessments, interventions, and responses accurately in the electronic health record
• Educate patients and families on post-operative care, discharge instructions, and follow-up needs
• Respond quickly and effectively to patient deterioration or emergency situations in the PACU

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Louisiana or eligible for licensing in Louisiana
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Prior PACU, post-anesthesia, or perioperative nursing experience preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and comfort with acute post-operative care
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate across disciplines
• Current certifications for any required facility-specific competencies as requested

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

• Pain assessment and multimodal pain management techniques
• Electronic health record documentation
