Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring safe transition to the next level of care
• Administer medications and manage IV therapy with precision and clinical judgment
• Collaborate with anesthesia and surgical teams to communicate patient status and handoffs
• Provide compassionate education and support to patients and families during recovery
• Recognize and respond promptly to postoperative complications and escalate when needed
• Document patient care thoroughly and accurately to support continuity and quality

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — eligibility to practice in Louisiana is expected
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; ACLS preferred or required by some facilities
• Prior PACU or post-anesthesia experience preferred; demonstrated comfort with postoperative patient care
• Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and teamwork mindset
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced perioperative environment with attention to detail

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and monitoring in the immediate postoperative period
• Airway management basics and familiarity with recovery from general/regional anesthesia
• Pain management strategies and administration of analgesics safely
• IV therapy, medication administration, and documentation best practices
• Effective interdisciplinary communication and handoff reporting
