Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care to patients recovering from surgery
• Monitor and assess patient vital signs, pain levels, and recovery progress
• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and protocols
• Collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgical teams, and allied staff for safe handoffs
• Educate patients and families about recovery, discharge instructions, and follow-up
• Document patient care and condition accurately and promptly in the electronic chart
• Respond effectively to emergencies and escalate concerns when needed

Qualifications

• Current, unrestricted RN license in Louisiana (or compact RN license as applicable)
• Recent PACU experience preferred; familiarity with post-anesthesia workflows a plus
• BLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred or obtainable
• Comfortable with IV meds, pain management protocols, and airway basics
• Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical assessment and post-anesthesia monitoring skills
• Proficiency with patient monitoring equipment and documentation systems
• Medication administration and titration knowledge
• Effective communication and teamwork across disciplines
• Ability to prioritize, multitask, and respond calmly under pressure
