Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality peri- and post-operative orthopedic nursing care to surgical and trauma patients
• Manage an independent patient assignment (expected independent management of 5 patients) with clinical confidence
• Perform and oversee dressing changes and aspirations, ensuring sterile technique and best practice
• Assess, monitor, and manage patient pain using evidence-based interventions and collaborate on pain management plans
• Document patient care accurately and timely in Meditech EMR
• Coordinate care with surgeons, anesthesia, physical therapy and the multidisciplinary team to support smooth patient recovery
• Educate patients and families on postoperative care, discharge planning, and safety at home

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Colorado or Compact RN license
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (as listed in the posting)
• Surgical unit experience and demonstrated orthopedic nursing skills (Orthopedic Surgery specialty)
• Ability to independently manage a 5-patient assignment on the unit
• Familiarity with Meditech electronic medical record (EMR)
• BLS certification required (or ability to obtain prior to start); other certifications encouraged
• Positive attitude and strong teamwork/communication skills — this unit values collaboration

Education

• Active RN licensure required (ADN or BSN acceptable); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Orthopedic nursing and perioperative/postoperative care
• Surgical nursing experience and familiarity with typical orthopedic procedures
• Meditech EMR proficiency for clear, accurate documentation
• Pain management techniques and post-op analgesia monitoring
• Wound care and dressing change best practices
• Strong patient education and discharge planning abilities
• Ability to work effectively in a 1:5 nursing ratio and fast-paced unit environments
