Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring patients and newborns
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using electronic fetal monitoring and intervene appropriately
• Assist with labor support, delivery procedures, and immediate postpartum care
• Collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesia, and neonatal teams for safe outcomes
• Perform timely, accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
• Educate patients and families on labor progress, breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery
• Respond swiftly to emergencies and escalate care when needed to ensure patient safety

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license (eligible to practice in Louisiana required)
• Experience in Labor & Delivery or maternal-newborn nursing preferred
• Current BLS required; NRP and/or ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
• Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts and participate in rotating schedules including weekends

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

• Fetal heart monitoring interpretation and triage
• Labor support techniques and delivery assistance
• Newborn assessment and immediate neonatal care
• Proficient documentation in EMR systems and accurate medication administration
• Patient/family education and culturally sensitive care
