Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring patients and their families
• Continuously monitor maternal and fetal status and intervene as appropriate
• Collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiology, and the neonatal team to ensure safe deliveries
• Administer medications and treatments accurately and document care thoroughly
• Support patients with labor coping techniques, education, and emotional reassurance
• Respond quickly and effectively to obstetric emergencies and escalate when needed
• Maintain accurate, timely charting in the facility EMR and contribute to handoffs

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or eligibility for state licensure
• Prior labor & delivery experience preferred; new grads with strong maternity clinical experience may be considered
• Current BLS certification required; NRP and/or ACLS preferred
• Comfort with fetal monitoring and intrapartum care best practices
• Strong teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Fetal monitoring and interpretation
• Labor progression assessment and management
• Procedures and equipment used in L&D (e.g., monitoring, fetal scalp, epidural monitoring collaboration)
• Medication administration and IV management
• Patient education, family-centered care, and discharge planning
• Electronic medical records (EMR) documentation skills
