Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring patients and their families
• Perform continuous fetal monitoring and interpret tracings to ensure fetal well-being
• Support patients through labor and delivery with clinical interventions and emotional encouragement
• Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesia, and neonatal teams for coordinated care
• Manage postpartum assessments and newborn initial care with attention to safety
• Document patient status, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the medical record
• Act quickly and decisively in emergencies to support optimal maternal and neonatal outcomes

Qualifications

• Current RN license eligible for practice in Louisiana (active or compact as applicable)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) highly preferred
• Clinical experience in Labor & Delivery; previous L&D experience preferred
• Strong assessment, triage, and critical thinking skills in high-acuity situations
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills to coordinate multidisciplinary care
• Ability to work 12.5-hour clinical shifts and manage variable schedules

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Fetal monitoring and electronic fetal heart rate interpretation
• Labor management and delivery techniques
• Postpartum and newborn assessment and care
• Medication administration and IV management in obstetric settings
• Patient and family education around labor, delivery, and postpartum care
• Proficient clinical documentation and time management
