Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered critical care in the ICU, monitoring and responding to changes in condition
• Manage advanced respiratory support including ventilators and CPAP/BiPAP with confidence
• Perform and manage central line care, port access, therapeutic phlebotomy, and blood transfusions safely
• Interpret telemetry and cardiac rhythms and intervene according to unit protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, physicians, and support staff to develop and execute care plans
• Document thoroughly and accurately in Meditech Expanse to ensure continuity of care
• Educate patients and families with compassion and clear communication during stressful times
• Support unit goals and participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing (compact license accepted where applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of clinical ICU experience required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIH certification must be current and renewed annually
• Demonstrated experience with ventilator management, CPAP/BiPAP, and telemetry monitoring
• Comfortable with procedures and equipment common to ICU: central lines, ports, therapeutic phlebotomy, and blood transfusion
• Willingness to float to PCU, 3rd floor, or ED as needed and work nights/alternate weekends

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing principles and best practices
• Ventilator and noninvasive ventilation (CPAP/BiPAP) management
• Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Central line care, port access, and therapeutic phlebotomy techniques
• Meditech Expanse electronic documentation system experience
• IV pump and infusion device familiarity (Baxter pumps), wound VAC, chest tube and NG tube management
• Strong clinical judgment, prioritization, and effective communication skills
