Roles & Responsibilities

• Conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with care and professionalism
• Perform focused medical interviewing and documentation to capture accurate veteran histories
• Carry out targeted physical assessments such as range of motion and muscle strength testing
• Produce clear, timely exam reports and required addendums that support veteran benefits decisions
• Complete routine administrative follow-up including medical opinions and diagnostic reviews
• Adhere to VES and VA standards for non-treatment, one-time examinations and documentation
• Participate in required training and credentialing to maintain readiness for assignments

Qualifications

• Clinical background in general medicine — Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, or similar
• Experience with compensation and pension exams is welcomed and helpful
• Ability to perform interview-based exams and focused physical testing (ROM, strength testing)
• Willingness to work PRN/per diem and to travel within a 50-mile radius of the assignment city when required
• Have a private office available (for provider-office assignments) or be able to work at a VES facility per the role
• Able to complete VES credentialing and required training prior to seeing patients

Education

• Clinical doctorate level appropriate for physician practice (MD/DO or equivalent) preferred; completion of training appropriate to specialty

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled medical interviewing and history-taking
• Proficient in range of motion and muscle strength assessment techniques
• Strong report-writing and clinical documentation skills
• Familiarity with one-time, non-treatment exam workflows
• Attention to detail and ability to follow standardized exam protocols
• Comfort with completing follow-up administrative tasks like addendums and medical opinions
