Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) exams and Separation Health Assessments with accuracy and compassion
• Conduct interview-based evaluations and focused physical assessments, including range of motion and muscle strength testing
• Prepare clear, timely medical documentation and exam reports that support Veterans’ benefit determinations
• Complete necessary addendums and provide medical opinions when follow-up administrative work is required
• Coordinate with the VES team for credentialing, scheduling, and submission of completed reports
• Maintain professional boundaries — these are non-treatment exams focused on objective assessment
• Participate in required training and onboarding to ensure consistency and quality of exams

Qualifications

• Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) licensure appropriate for practice (able to provide services within the state where exams are performed)
• Clinical background in family medicine, internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, or general medicine
• Comfort and experience performing interview-based exams, range of motion testing, and muscle strength assessments
• Strong medical documentation skills and experience writing objective exam reports, addendums, and medical opinions
• PRN availability and reliability to accept half-day or full-day assignments within a 50-mile radius
• Professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to serving Veterans with respect

Education

• Graduate-level Nurse Practitioner degree (MSN or DNP) or equivalent clinical NP credential

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of Compensation & Pension exam processes and separation health assessments
• Proficiency in focused physical exam techniques (ROM testing, muscle strength testing)
• Excellent clinical interviewing skills and ability to synthesize exam findings into clear reports
• Comfort reading diagnostics and integrating results into exam conclusions
• Strong written communication for timely, accurate medical documentation and addendums
• Ability to work independently in your own office or at a nearby VES facility
