Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies (Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler, Transesophageal, exercise and pharmacologic echocardiography) with accuracy and care
• Conduct other cardiac diagnostic testing as assigned, including EKGs, Holter preparation/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress testing
• Operate and optimize diagnostic equipment—echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs and Holter monitors—to deliver high-quality data for cardiology teams
• Document and process studies accurately within hospital information systems for scheduling, reporting and correct charging
• Follow and enforce infection control practices and aseptic techniques for safe patient care and equipment disinfection
• Provide age-specific care across the lifespan, including neonatal and pediatric patients, tailoring technique and communication appropriately
• Serve as a clinical resource and preceptor—guide students from contracted colleges/universities and support team learning
• Collaborate professionally with physicians, nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams to ensure excellent patient outcomes

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program or a minimum of 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience required
• Preferred: Cardiovascular Sonography certificate and extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
• Comfort with preceptorship/clinical teaching preferred

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer credential (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
• Cardiovascular Sonography certificate (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in transthoracic (TTE) and transesophageal (TEE) echocardiography
• Familiarity with M-Mode, color-flow Doppler and stress (exercise and pharmacologic) echo protocols
• Skilled in EKG/electrocardiography, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress testing
• Experience using hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and charging of studies
• Strong infection control practices and equipment disinfection knowledge
• Ability to provide compassionate, age-appropriate care including neonatal and pediatric patients
• Effective communication and teamwork skills; comfortable teaching and mentoring students
