Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and curative periodontal and dental care for infants through geriatric patients
• Perform clinical hygiene duties including examination of oral tissues, periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, and topical fluoride application
• Take and process dental radiographs (x-rays) and record vital signs like pulse, blood pressure, and temperature
• Measure and document periodontal pockets and make accurate clinical judgments to inform treatment
• Deliver clear, compassionate patient education on oral hygiene, home care, and nutrition
• Manage patient scheduling and maintain efficient clinic flow
• Coordinate and conduct prevention activities including sealant clinics, Head Start clinics, and community health fairs
• Maintain hygienist supplies and ensure proper sterilization and infection control practices

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (Bachelor's degree preferred)
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene License in the State of Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
• Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED
• Comfortable sitting over patients for extended periods and strong manual dexterity

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program
• Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical hygiene skills and knowledge of periodontal disease and therapies
• Proper infection control and sterilization techniques
• Experience with dental radiography and coronal polishing
• Excellent oral and written communication for patient education
• Accurate clinical judgment and attention to detail
• Ability to manage schedules and coordinate community outreach
• Dexterity and physical stamina for clinical procedures
