Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver skilled occupational therapy interventions as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to help patients regain independence
• Collaborate with therapists, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to create meaningful, patient-centered care plans
• Document patient progress and treatment outcomes accurately and timely
• Adapt therapeutic activities and recommend adaptive equipment to meet individual needs
• Educate patients and families on home programs and safe strategies for daily living
• Support discharge planning to ensure smooth transitions back to home or next level of care
• Maintain compliance with facility policies, licensing, and documentation standards

Qualifications

• Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential required
• Ability to hold or obtain South Dakota state licensure or authorization to practice
• Current basic life support (BLS) certification preferred or ability to obtain
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced rehab/skilled nursing environment
• Clear background check and up-to-date immunizations as required by facility

Education

• Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant (required)
• COTA certification (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of therapeutic activities, adaptive equipment, and ADL/IADL training
• Skilled in patient assessment, clinical documentation, and measurable goal-setting
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with interdisciplinary teams
• Ability to modify interventions based on patient needs and safety considerations
• Familiarity with common rehab diagnoses and treatment strategies
