Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on occupational therapy interventions to help patients regain independence in daily living skills
• Implement individualized treatment plans under the supervision of an OT and document progress accurately
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and optimize patient outcomes
• Coach patients and caregivers on adaptive techniques, equipment use, and home safety
• Conduct functional assessments and contribute to discharge planning to ensure safe transitions
• Maintain timely, compliant documentation and participate in quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Licensed or certified as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
• Active or eligible to obtain required New Mexico credentials and ability to work in NM
• Comfortable working Monday through Friday on a day shift schedule
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage patients of varied ages and diagnoses
• Previous experience in transitional, inpatient rehab, or similar settings preferred
• Current basic life support (BLS) certification preferred or willing to obtain

Education

• Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant (or related accredited program) required
• COTA certification required

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in ADL retraining, therapeutic activities, and adaptive equipment recommendations
• Proficient in patient assessment, goal-setting, and progress documentation
• Familiarity with common rehabilitation modalities and safety/transfer techniques
• Clear communication and patient education skills with a family-centered approach
• Comfortable using electronic health records and maintaining compliance standards
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary rehab team
