Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients, monitoring vital signs and recovery milestones
• Assess and intervene for pain, nausea, airway and hemodynamic concerns with skill and urgency
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, following hospital policy
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the perioperative team to ensure smooth handoffs
• Educate families about recovery expectations and discharge instructions in a clear, comforting way
• Document patient status, interventions, and outcomes thoroughly and professionally
• Maintain a safe, calm, and child-friendly PACU environment that supports healing

Qualifications

• Active RN license in Missouri (or compact RN license where applicable)
• Current BLS certification required; PALS preferred or required based on unit policy
• Experience or strong interest in PACU and pediatric nursing
• Comfort with pediatric airway management, pain control, IV therapy, and emergence care
• Ability to pass background check and meet immunization/health requirements
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented, patient-first mindset

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• BSN preferred where available

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia care and recovery assessment
• Pediatric growth, development, and communication techniques
• Familiarity with PACU protocols, monitoring equipment, and documentation systems
• Medication administration, titration, and pain management strategies
• Safe transfer and handoff practices between perioperative team members
• Infection control, sterile technique awareness, and emergency response
