Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and manage MedSurg telemetry patients—interpret EKG strips and act decisively
• Administer nursing care using Cerner EMR for accurate documentation and handoffs
• Collaborate with PCTs, IV/PICC team, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and hospitalists to coordinate safe, timely care
• Provide compassionate patient education and support during recovery and discharge planning
• Float between MedSurg units as needed while maintaining high standards of care and continuity
• Work within a 5:1 patient ratio and escalate concerns to the charge nurse to maintain patient safety
• Participate in weekend and holiday rotations as part of the permanent staff schedule

Qualifications

• Active CA Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• BLS certification required
• COVID-19 vaccination required
• Cerner EMR experience is a must — you’ll be charting and communicating in Cerner daily
• Telemetry experience with the ability to read and interpret EKG strips
• 2 years solid MedSurg experience for nights; 3–4 years MedSurg experience preferred for day shifts
• Comfortable working 12-hour shifts and floating between MedSurg units
• IV/PICC familiarity, charge nurse experience, and strong teamwork with PCTs are nice-to-haves

Education

• Active RN license (Associate degree, diploma, or BSN acceptable)
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with Cerner charting and clinical workflows
• Telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
• Strong patient assessment and critical thinking skills in an acute MedSurg setting
• Effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
• Time management and prioritization for 12-hour shift workflows
• Adaptability to float between units and manage changing patient acuity
