Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to laboring patients throughout labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum
• Monitor fetal and maternal status using appropriate fetal monitoring and assessment tools
• Collaborate closely with obstetricians, anesthesiology, neonatology, and the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe outcomes
• Assist with labor management and delivery procedures, including urgent interventions when necessary
• Educate patients and families about labor, delivery, postpartum care and newborn care in a clear, supportive way
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
• Advocate for patient safety, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and contribute to a positive unit culture

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse licensure (ability to practice in Louisiana or compact state) — you must be legally authorized to work here
• Current BLS certification required
• Obstetric-specific certifications such as NRP, ACLS, or RNC-OB are a plus/preferred
• Clinical experience in Labor & Delivery or demonstrated competency in obstetric nursing
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Fetal monitoring and interpretation (electronic fetal monitoring)
• Labor support techniques and comfort measures
• Neonatal resuscitation principles and newborn assessment
• Medication administration and IV therapy in obstetric settings
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and documentation best practices
• Ability to respond calmly and effectively in high-acuity situations
