Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert, compassionate neonatal care in a 22‑bed Level 3 NICU and newborn nursery
• Manage advanced respiratory support including mechanical ventilation, jet ventilation and high-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV)
• Lead and manage therapies such as inhaled nitric oxide (INO) and whole-body therapeutic hypothermia when indicated
• Deliver in-house clinical coverage during assigned rotation blocks and collaborate closely with NNPs for seamless patient care
• Teach and mentor Family Practice, OB/GYN residents and medical students — shape the next generation of clinicians
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and contribute to quality improvement and patient‑safety initiatives

Qualifications

• MD or DO with fellowship training in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
• Board certified or board eligible in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
• Active Virginia medical license or ability to obtain one
• Experience working in a Level 3 NICU with exposure to high-volume delivery centers
• Demonstrated competence with advanced neonatal respiratory support (HFJV, jet ventilation) and therapeutic hypothermia
• Strong collaborator who thrives working with NNPs, nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams
• Willingness to provide in-house clinical coverage as part of a rotating schedule
• Not accepting visa candidates; not accepting locum candidates

Education

• MD or DO degree
• Fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine
• Board certification or eligibility in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine

Knowledge & Skills

• Broad knowledge of neonatology and Level 3 NICU management
• Skilled in mechanical ventilation strategies and advanced ventilatory modalities (HFJV, jet ventilation)
• Experience with inhaled nitric oxide (INO) and whole-body cooling protocols
• Comfortable providing in-house clinical coverage and consultative neonatal care
• Strong teaching and communication skills for working with residents, medical students and NNPs
• Ability to thrive in a high-volume delivery environment and prioritize patient safety
