Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a safe, sterile operating room environment for a variety of cases including orthopedics, urology, ENT, ophthalmology and podiatry
• Scrub and assist surgeons during procedures, ensuring instruments and supplies are ready and accounted for
• Perform specimen handling and labeling accurately to support diagnostics and patient safety
• Operate and troubleshoot common OR equipment such as electrosurgical units and fiber optic light sources
• Implement infection control practices and lead the Universal Protocol (time-out) to ensure correct patient, site and procedure
• Assist with urinary bladder catheterization, patient positioning and wound management to optimize outcomes
• Document care clearly in the charting system (Epic preferred) and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members

Qualifications

• Active CA state nursing license required (pending licenses are not accepted)
• Minimum 1 year of OR experience required
• BLS certification preferred
• Familiarity with Epic or similar electronic charting systems preferred
• Experience in Ambulatory OR and General OR settings is a strong plus
• Able to float within main OR and follow RTO restrictions (no more than 7 days)

Knowledge & Skills

• Infection control and Universal Protocol (Time out) Procedure
• Urinary bladder catheterization and wound management
• Specimen handling and labeling with attention to detail
• Operation of electrosurgical units and fiber optic light sources/cords
• Laser and radiation safety principles used in specialty cases
• Experience with ophthalmology procedures including cataract extraction/implant
• Comfort working in Ambulatory OR and General OR environments
• Familiarity with Epic charting and perioperative documentation
