Geriatric Nursing Assistant

Location: Bowie, MD

Contract Type: Per-Diem

Shift Type: Per diem / Varied schedule (days vary), 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM NOC

Hours per Week: 40

Candidate Pay Rate: $19 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming) with dignity and kindness
  • Provide safe, hands-on support for mobility and transfers
  • Monitor and record vital signs and resident status accurately
  • Document care and communicate changes to nurses and care team promptly
  • Support mealtime assistance and basic feeding as needed
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment and follow infection control practices
  • Build trusting relationships with residents and engage them in meaningful ways

Qualifications

  • GNA certification required
  • Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or willing to obtain
  • Comfortable working night shifts and adapting to per diem scheduling
  • Previous experience or demonstrated comfort working with geriatric populations preferred
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with the care team
  • Reliable, compassionate, and patient-centered approach to care

Education

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • GNA certification required

Knowledge & Skills

  • Understanding of geriatric care principles and dignity-preserving practices
  • Basic knowledge of ADLs, mobility assistance, and fall prevention
  • Ability to take and record vital signs accurately
  • Comfortable with basic charting and documentation
  • Good observational skills to notice changes in resident condition
  • Effective teamwork, time management, and prioritization
