Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough pre-operative assessments for pediatric patients to ensure safety and readiness for procedures
• Prepare young patients and their families — explain the process in kid-friendly terms and ease anxieties
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgical, and perioperative teams to coordinate smooth patient flow
• Administer and document medications and pre-op interventions per protocols
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient record and communicate critical information to the care team
• Participate in orientation and ongoing training to maintain best practices and compliance
• Advocate for patient comfort, safety, and family-centered care at every step

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license (Missouri) — must be able to practice in MO
• Experience or strong interest in pediatric pre-operative nursing (Pre-Op/Peds)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced perioperative environment and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
• Current immunizations and ability to pass background and health screenings
• Excellent communication skills and a compassionate bedside manner

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate care approaches
• Pre-op screening, documentation, and safety checks
• Familiarity with perioperative workflows and basic monitoring
• Medication administration and adherence to protocols
• Strong family education skills and the ability to calm anxious caregivers and kids
• Comfortable using electronic health records and clear clinical documentation
