Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide direct, compassionate patient care for Med-Surg patients under limited supervision
• Plan, direct, and evaluate total nursing care, adjusting plans based on patient response
• Administer medications and IV therapy skillfully and accurately
• Perform thorough patient assessments and prioritize care based on clinical data
• Document patient care clearly, concisely, and in a timely manner
• Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care
• Respond calmly and resourcefully in emergency situations
• Support and enforce infection control policies and maintain patient confidentiality
• Participate in orientation and in-service training to share knowledge and grow professionally
• Maintain a positive working climate that supports growth and job satisfaction for coworkers

Qualifications

• Current Iowa Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required
• Healthcare Provider BLS certification required
• ACLS certification preferred
• Mandatory Abuse Reporter Certification required within 6 months of hire
• Minimum of 2 years acute care experience required
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well
• Demonstrated ability to work rotating night shifts, weekends and holidays as scheduled

Education

• Current Iowa Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
• Healthcare Provider BLS certification
• Abuse Reporter Certification (to be obtained within 6 months of hire)
• ACLS certification preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Med-Surg nursing best practices and patient assessment skills
• Medication administration and IV therapy proficiency
• Care planning, evaluation, and prioritization of patient needs
• Strong documentation skills and electronic charting accuracy
• Infection control procedures and safe nursing interventions
• Effective communication and teamwork across shifts and departments
• Emergency response and critical thinking under pressure
• Familiarity with unit policies, procedures, and orientation/in-service participation
