Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform focused pre-operative assessments for pediatric patients, ensuring safety and readiness for procedures
• Collaborate with surgical teams to prepare patients and families, communicating instructions clearly and compassionately
• Administer and document pre-op medications and interventions as ordered
• Monitor and record vital signs and patient status during the pre-op period
• Educate families on pre-operative instructions, discharge expectations, and post-op care basics
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the medical record and escalate concerns to the care team

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible to practice in Massachusetts)
• Experience or strong interest in pre-operative nursing and pediatrics
• BLS required; PALS preferred or willing to obtain
• Comfort working in a fast-paced surgical/pre-op environment
• Strong communication skills with children and families, and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
• Up-to-date immunizations and ability to complete required facility onboarding/orientation

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
• Knowledge of pre-op protocols, documentation, and medication administration
• Ability to perform focused physical assessments and recognize changes in patient status
• Competence with basic monitoring equipment and vital sign interpretation
• Excellent teamwork, prioritization, and patient-family education skills
• Familiarity with surgical workflow and infection prevention practices
