Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive post-anesthesia care to pediatric patients, monitoring vital signs and recovery progress
• Assess pain and comfort, intervene appropriately, and educate families about post-op expectations
• Administer medications and treatments safely and document all care in the medical record
• Collaborate with anesthesia, surgery, and nursing teams to ensure smooth patient handoffs
• Recognize and escalate changes in patient status promptly to maintain safety
• Support a family-centered approach — communicating clearly and compassionately with parents and guardians
• Participate in orientation and unit education to maintain high standards of pediatric PACU care

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — eligible to work in Missouri is preferred
• Experience or clinical exposure in PACU and pediatric care preferred
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required; PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) strongly preferred
• Comfortable with post-anesthesia assessment, IV medication administration, and PACU monitoring
• Strong teamwork, communication skills, and a patient- and family-centered mindset

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric post-anesthesia assessment and monitoring
• Pain management and safe medication administration
• Familiarity with PACU workflows and recovery milestones
• IV therapy, airway support basics, and emergency recognition
• Accurate clinical documentation and EHR navigation
• Clear communication with multidisciplinary teams and families
