Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide focused post-anesthesia care to patients in the PACU with vigilance and compassion
• Monitor and assess patient status, manage airway and pain control, and respond to changes promptly
• Collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgical teams, and interdisciplinary staff to ensure smooth transitions
• Document patient care accurately and clearly in the medical record
• Educate patients and families about recovery expectations and discharge instructions
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a safe, patient-centered environment

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in Louisiana (or compact license where applicable)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Prior PACU or post-anesthesia experience preferred (new grads with relevant OR/critical care experience encouraged to apply)
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and acute care skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities in fast-paced surgical settings
• Ability to meet physical demands of patient care and follow infection control protocols

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of PACU protocols and post-anesthesia patient monitoring
• Proficiency with airway management, IV medications, and pain control practices
• Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate clinical documentation
• Ability to triage, prioritize, and escalate care when needed
• Patient- and family-centered education skills
• Team-based approach to perioperative care and safety
