Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, patient-centered perioperative nursing care in the operating room
• Prepare the OR and instruments, maintain sterile field, and ensure equipment readiness
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the perioperative team to coordinate care
• Monitor patient condition before, during, and after procedures and document accurately
• Perform accurate surgical counts and assist with specimen handling and documentation
• Promote infection prevention practices and adhere to established safety protocols
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
• Support and educate patients and families about perioperative care and recovery

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in Louisiana or eligibility to obtain one
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or required depending on unit
• Previous OR/perioperative nursing experience preferred
• CNOR or perioperative certification is a plus
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams
• Current basic computer skills and ability to document in an electronic health record

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred
• Additional perioperative training or certifications encouraged

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of sterile technique and perioperative procedures
• Familiarity with surgical instrumentation, supplies, and OR workflows
• Ability to rapidly assess and respond to patient changes during surgery
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills in high-stakes environments
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation practices
• Commitment to patient safety, infection control, and quality improvement
