Roles & Responsibilities

• Implement therapeutic interventions and treatment plans developed by the physical therapist to help residents regain mobility and independence
• Assist with transfers, gait training, and functional mobility practice while ensuring patient safety at all times
• Document clinical progress clearly and timely in the patient record so the team can track improvements
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and care staff to coordinate individualized care goals
• Educate residents and families on home exercise programs, adaptive techniques, and fall prevention
• Monitor patient response to treatment and communicate changes or concerns to the supervising PT
• Maintain equipment, prepare treatment areas, and ensure infection control standards are followed
• Contribute to a positive, motivating environment that encourages patient participation and dignity

Qualifications

• Current, active PTA license for the state of Massachusetts (required)
• Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
• BLS/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
• Experience in skilled nursing or rehabilitation settings preferred
• Strong communication and documentation skills; comfortable working with interdisciplinary teams
• Ability to pass background checks and meet facility immunization / compliance requirements

Education

• Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in transfers, gait training, therapeutic exercise, and balance training
• Knowledge of adaptive equipment and safe patient handling techniques
• Comfortable with resident-centered care in a skilled nursing/rehab environment
• Ability to perform clear, concise clinical documentation
• Good clinical judgment and ability to follow PT-established treatment plans
• Strong interpersonal skills for coaching residents and working with families
