Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality pre-hospital and transport care with professionalism and empathy
• Deliver Advanced Life Support interventions during critical care and interfacility transports
• Perform IV insertion and safe medication administration according to protocol
• Operate and monitor cardiac equipment and infusion pumps (Zoll, Baxter/Alaris) during transports
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently in the ESO EMR
• Adapt to varied transport types — wheelchair, behavioral health, BLS/ALS and critical care — with calm judgement
• Coordinate with Mission Hospital staff and the Buncombe County Medical Director when required
• Maintain vehicle and clinical equipment readiness and adhere to unit guidelines and policies

Qualifications

• Current North Carolina Paramedic Certification (must maintain CE requirements) — required
• ACLS, PALS, PHTLS/ITLS and BLS certifications — required
• One year of full-time active pre-hospital care (or equivalent) — minimum
• Must be at least 21 years old and have 2 years satisfactory driving experience to meet insurance guidelines
• Experience with critical care transport (CCT), ALS/BLS transports and behavioral health transports preferred
• Familiarity with ESO EMR and experience with Zoll cardiac monitors and Baxter/Alaris IV pumps a plus
• Boarding with Buncombe County Medical Director, National Registry, or a Bachelor's in EMS are desirable

Education

• High school diploma or GED required
• Bachelor's degree in EMS or related field preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Pre-hospital care and critical care transport best practices
• Advanced life support (ALS) procedures and emergency pharmacology
• IV insertion, medication administration and infusion pump management
• Proficiency with ESO electronic medical records
• Operation and interpretation of Zoll cardiac monitors
• Safe patient handling for wheelchair and stretcher transports
• Strong communication and teamwork in fast-paced transport environments
• Adherence to unit policies, documentation standards, and infection control
