Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-acuity critical care for adults and teens (>15 years) in a 34-bed Med Surg ICU, delivering safe, evidence-based nursing
• Titrate vasoactive and other drips (vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, antiarrhythmics) while closely monitoring patient response
• Troubleshoot and support ventilator-dependent patients and collaborate with Respiratory Therapy from nasal cannula through mechanical ventilation
• Read and interpret cardiac telemetry/ECG strips (Draeger monitoring) and act promptly on changes
• Document accurately and efficiently in EPIC to ensure continuity of care and clear communication with the care team
• Respond as a bedside clinician for RRTs and Codes and support the charge nurse when needed
• Care for complex diagnoses (ARDS, sepsis, MODS, cardiogenic shock, post-op critical care, neuro cases) and use advanced devices/protocols as trained
• Collaborate with physicians, fellows, residents and multidisciplinary teammates to deliver patient-centered care

Qualifications

• Current RN license (state of practice) and ability to submit license at time of submittal
• Minimum 2 years recent ICU experience required
• BLS, ACLS and NIHSS certifications required at start
• Comfort titrating drips and managing high-acuity invasive monitoring (CVPs, A-lines, Swans) and devices after training
• Proven ability to read/interpret cardiac strips and manage telemetry without dedicated techs
• Driver's license required at submittal (used to verify 50-mile radius rule)
• Willingness to pass an open-book skills exam (90% pass required) during orientation and adhere to unit policies (e.g., no artificial nails in patient care areas)
• Able to float to other inpatient units (excludes Maternity/NICU); strong teamwork and communication skills

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing principles and rapid clinical decision-making
• Medication titration and hemodynamic management
• Ventilator support basics and bedside troubleshooting
• Telemetry monitoring and ECG interpretation
• EPIC charting and accurate clinical documentation
• Familiarity or willingness to be trained on CRRT, Impella, IABP, EV-1000, ICP monitoring and hypothermia protocols
• Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and function in a fast-paced tertiary hospital
