Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, hands-on care to patients in a correctional mental health setting
• Monitor patient behavior and mental status, escalate concerns to clinical team promptly
• Implement individualized care plans and support therapeutic activities
• Use de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques to maintain safety
• Accurately document patient interactions, observations, and interventions
• Collaborate with nurses, clinicians, and facility staff to ensure coordinated care
• Support admissions, transfers, and routine security procedures as required
• Contribute to a respectful, recovery-focused environment for patients

Qualifications

• Current California Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) - required
• Comfortable working in a correctional facility environment and able to pass required background/security checks
• Ability to work the assigned evening schedule (Wednesday-Sunday, 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM) and be flexible for training
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain if required by facility

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an approved Psychiatric Technician program preferred
• Completion of any facility-required orientation and training (first 2 weeks on varied schedule)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in behavioral observation, documentation, and reporting
• Competent in de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
• Familiarity with mental health conditions, psychiatric symptoms, and common interventions
• Good judgment, situational awareness, and adherence to safety protocols
• Team-oriented with strong interpersonal and patient-focused communication
