Location: Tehachapi, CA

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Wednesday-Sunday, 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM (Evening); regular days worked: Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday; training: first 2 weeks with variable hours and days (flexibility required)
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $49 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, hands-on care to patients in a correctional mental health setting
- Monitor patient behavior and mental status, escalate concerns to clinical team promptly
- Implement individualized care plans and support therapeutic activities
- Use de-escalation and crisis-intervention techniques to maintain safety
- Accurately document patient interactions, observations, and interventions
- Collaborate with nurses, clinicians, and facility staff to ensure coordinated care
- Support admissions, transfers, and routine security procedures as required
- Contribute to a respectful, recovery-focused environment for patients
Qualifications
- Current California Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) - required
- Comfortable working in a correctional facility environment and able to pass required background/security checks
- Ability to work the assigned evening schedule (Wednesday-Sunday, 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM) and be flexible for training
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain if required by facility
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an approved Psychiatric Technician program preferred
- Completion of any facility-required orientation and training (first 2 weeks on varied schedule)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in behavioral observation, documentation, and reporting
- Competent in de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
- Familiarity with mental health conditions, psychiatric symptoms, and common interventions
- Good judgment, situational awareness, and adherence to safety protocols
- Team-oriented with strong interpersonal and patient-focused communication
