Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric residents, preserving dignity and promoting comfort
• Assist residents with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, feeding)
• Perform safe and thorough transfers and mobility assistance, using proper body mechanics
• Monitor resident conditions and promptly report changes to the nursing team
• Accurately document care provided, observations, and resident responses
• Support mealtime needs and ensure residents receive appropriate assistance during meals
• Collaborate with nurses and interdisciplinary team members to maintain quality care plans
• Maintain infection control practices and a clean, safe environment for residents

Qualifications

• Current GNA certification (required) or equivalent state-approved nursing assistant credential
• Active enrollment/standing on the appropriate state registry (where applicable)
• CPR/BLS certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
• Comfort working with geriatric populations and familiarity with common age-related conditions
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a compassionate bedside manner
• Ability to pass background checks and meet facility immunization requirements

Education

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Completion of an approved Geriatric Nursing Assistant training program (or equivalent)

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of basic geriatric care principles and activities of daily living (ADLs)
• Safe patient handling and transfer techniques
• Basic vital signs measurement and reporting
• Strong observational skills and the ability to communicate changes clearly
• Infection prevention, hand hygiene, and universal precautions
• Time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs during a shift
