Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate direct care to geriatric residents, assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and feeding.
• Monitor residents’ condition and promptly report changes to nursing staff.
• Assist with safe transfers and mobility, using proper patient-handling techniques.
• Accurately document care activities and resident observations in charts and care plans.
• Advocate for residents’ comfort, dignity, and emotional well-being during daily interactions.
• Support the team during admissions, discharges, and care transitions to ensure continuity.

Qualifications

• Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification — required.
• Current state-required registration/certification for Maryland or ability to obtain promptly.
• CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire.
• Ability to pass background checks and required health screenings (TB, immunizations).
• Reliable, compassionate attitude with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Previous experience in long-term care or geriatrics is a plus but enthusiastic newcomers are welcome.

Education

• High school diploma or GED and completion of an approved GNA training program.

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of geriatric care needs and common age-related conditions.
• Safe patient handling and transfer techniques.
• Basic clinical skills such as taking vital signs and assisting with feeding and toileting.
• Accurate documentation and charting practices.
• Infection control and standard precautions knowledge.
• Strong communication with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
