Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess acute care patients' functional abilities and occupational needs promptly and accurately
- Develop individualized treatment plans focused on safe discharge and return to meaningful activity
- Implement targeted therapeutic interventions for mobility, ADLs, cognition, and upper-extremity function
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, PT, SLP, and case management to coordinate care and discharge planning
- Document clinical findings, progress, and discharge recommendations clearly and on time in the electronic medical record
- Educate patients and families on safety strategies, adaptive equipment, and home modifications
- Advocate for patient-centered care and support quality improvement initiatives on the unit
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Occupational Therapist license in California (OTR required)
- Minimum 2 years of Acute Care occupational therapy experience (ICU OT experience preferred)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or willingness to obtain
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hospital environment
- Excellent communication and interdisciplinary teamwork skills
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy (as required for licensure) — OTR credential
Knowledge & Skills
- Acute care assessment and intervention planning
- Experience working with ICU patients and medically complex cases preferred
- Skilled in mobility training, ADL retraining, and compensatory strategies
- Proficient with clinical documentation and electronic medical records
- Ability to educate patients/families and provide safe discharge recommendations
- Time management, prioritization, and collaborative problem-solving
