Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room and instruments so every procedure runs smoothly and efficiently
• Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and pass instruments and supplies with precision
• Perform sterile processing: decontaminate, clean, process, and sterilize supplies and equipment
• Maintain PAR levels and inventory—restock, label, and submit requisitions to avoid delays
• Assist the RN in patient care priorities and support immediate post-operative needs
• Operate and check OR/PACU equipment (monitors, crash cart, sterilizers, warming units)
• Document and communicate patient concerns and procedure details to the team
• Participate in performance improvement initiatives that enhance patient safety

Qualifications

• Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• Minimum of 1 year surgical tech experience preferred
• CST program completion preferred
• Ability to be on-call and respond within 30 minutes when scheduled
• Strong communication, customer service, and teamwork skills

Education

• CST program completion preferred
• High school diploma or GED (standard minimum)
• Current Certified Surgical Technologist credential required

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient with sterile technique and surgical instrumentation
• Experience operating sterilizing units and performing biological testing of loads
• Strong computer skills and ability to navigate EMR systems
• Knowledge of OR equipment (ESU units, lights, tables, monitors, warming devices)
• Ability to prioritize, work independently, and perform under pressure
• Familiarity with specimen handling and logging procedures
• Commitment to patient safety and hand-off communication protocols
