Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room and instruments so every procedure runs smoothly and efficiently
- Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and pass instruments and supplies with precision
- Perform sterile processing: decontaminate, clean, process, and sterilize supplies and equipment
- Maintain PAR levels and inventory—restock, label, and submit requisitions to avoid delays
- Assist the RN in patient care priorities and support immediate post-operative needs
- Operate and check OR/PACU equipment (monitors, crash cart, sterilizers, warming units)
- Document and communicate patient concerns and procedure details to the team
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives that enhance patient safety
Qualifications
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
- Minimum of 1 year surgical tech experience preferred
- CST program completion preferred
- Ability to be on-call and respond within 30 minutes when scheduled
- Strong communication, customer service, and teamwork skills
Education
- CST program completion preferred
- High school diploma or GED (standard minimum)
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist credential required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient with sterile technique and surgical instrumentation
- Experience operating sterilizing units and performing biological testing of loads
- Strong computer skills and ability to navigate EMR systems
- Knowledge of OR equipment (ESU units, lights, tables, monitors, warming devices)
- Ability to prioritize, work independently, and perform under pressure
- Familiarity with specimen handling and logging procedures
- Commitment to patient safety and hand-off communication protocols
