Shift Type: Rotating 8-hour shifts across all days of the week (includes weekends and scheduled call). Shift options: 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM (Day), 2:45 PM - 11:15 PM (Evening), 10:45 PM - 7:15 AM (Night). Weekend call: CSTs typically every 4th weekend for day/evening shifts; weekday call self-scheduled 4-8 times per 4-week schedule; 30-minute call response required.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a sterile field and scrub for a wide range of cases including trauma, orthopedics, general, ENT, vascular, neuro and robotics
• Set up surgical instruments, supplies and equipment (including robotic setups when needed) according to case preference cards
• Assist surgeons and the OR team throughout procedures, anticipating needs and passing instruments efficiently
• Document case details and chart in Cerner SurgiNet accurately and promptly
• Respond to call assignments within the 30-minute response window and support emergency cases calmly and competently
• Operate and support sterile processing workflows and equipment when relevant (Steris, Sterrad, VP Plasma, steam sterilization)
• Participate in unit orientation (2-3 shifts floor-specific) and collaborate with charge nurses to maintain 1:1 ratios where required
• Adhere to infection control and sterile technique standards at all times

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA — required
• BLS certification — required
• Minimum 2 years of OR experience (trauma, ortho and general experience required)
• Comfortable with rotating 8-hour shifts, weekend coverage and scheduled call responsibilities
• Experience with Cerner SurgiNet (EMR) preferred/required for accurate charting
• Familiarity with CVOR cases is a plus; travelers will not be required to do CVOR unless specified in requisition

Education

• CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) via NBSTSA required
• BLS required
• No BSN required

Knowledge & Skills

• Scrub technique and sterile technique
• OR case management across trauma, ortho, general and specialty cases
• Cerner SurgiNet charting and documentation
• Experience with robotics (Da Vinci) and CVOR workflows
• Sterile processing knowledge: Steris, Sterrad, VP Plasma, steam sterilization
• Ability to respond to call within 30 minutes and manage emergency cases
• Comfort working independently on night shifts when staffing is lean
• Strong teamwork, communication and situational awareness in a fast-paced OR
