Roles & Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, disinfect, sterilize, and package surgical instruments and equipment following AAMI and SEARHC protocols
• Thoroughly disassemble and clean instruments to remove debris and bioburden prior to sterilization
• Operate and validate autoclave and other sterilization equipment, maintain monitoring records, and perform quality assurance checks
• Interpret biological monitoring and validation results to ensure sterilization parameters are met
• Communicate effectively with surgical teams and providers to troubleshoot instrument shortages and recommend alternatives
• Identify, report, and remove defective equipment and requisition repairs or replacements
• Assist in training and certifying team members on proper sterilization and reprocessing procedures
• Support inventory management tasks—ordering, stocking, and tracking supplies for specialty and primary care as workload allows

Qualifications

• Certification in Sterile Processing/Technology required (CBSPD or HPSA)
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
• High school diploma or GED required
• One (1) year of healthcare experience preferred
• Must have current flu vaccination
• Ability to complete required fingerprint/background processing (start date will be not less than 5 weeks after fingerprint cards are received)
• Strong oral and written communication, attention to detail, and proven organizational skills

Education

• High school diploma or GED
• Certification in Sterile Processing/Technology (CBSPD or HPSA) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterilization and autoclave operation, packaging, and validation aligned with AAMI guidelines
• Instrument reprocessing, decontamination, and instrument cleaning techniques
• Sterilization monitoring and biological indicator interpretation
• Infection control principles and sterile techniques
• Familiarity with surgical instrumentation care and handling
• Inventory management and basic computer skills
• Strong hand-eye coordination, task orientation, and ability to train others
