Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adults and geriatrics on a 35-bed PCU, including cardiac, nephrology, stroke, and DM patients
• Monitor telemetry and continuous EEG, interpret alarms and trends, and escalate concerns appropriately
• Titrate IV drips safely and according to protocol (e.g., Cardizem, beta-blockers, seizure meds)
• Document accurately in EPIC to ensure continuity of care and clear communication
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including charge nurses and patient care techs, to maintain safe ratios and patient flow
• Teach and support patients and families, especially during transitions and acute events
• Demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving on a fast-paced unit, prioritizing patient safety

Qualifications

• Current RN license (able to practice in Nebraska required at hire)
• BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS required for stroke assessments
• Minimum 2 years acute care nursing experience preferred (PCU/stepdown/telemetry experience a strong plus)
• Proven experience with telemetry monitoring and IV/drip titration
• Familiarity with EPIC charting system
• Driver’s license required at submittal; candidates must be within the 50-mile radius and may not be FT/PT/PRN with CommonSpirit facilities
• Successful completion of orientation pass/fail exam (90% required) and adherence to fingernail policy (no artificial nails)
• Ability to work every other weekend and every third holiday as scheduled

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma accepted; BSN is not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry and cardiac monitoring interpretation
• Continuous EEG monitoring basics and seizure medication management
• IV therapy and titratable drip management
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Critical thinking and rapid prioritization in acute care
• Charge nurse duties and the ability to take an assignment when required
• Flexibility to float to ICU, medical floors, or rehab
