Roles & Responsibilities

• Reprocess flexible endoscopes using manufacturer protocols and Automated Endoscope Reprocessors (AERs)
• Operate and monitor steam sterilizers (Steris, Sterrad) and perform biological and chemical indicator testing
• Assemble instrument trays and loaner/consignment sets accurately and efficiently
• Maintain meticulous equipment documentation using the Sterile Processing Microsystem (SPM) and chart in Epic as required
• Perform decontamination, high-level disinfection (HLD), and ultrasonic cleaning following infection control standards
• Take on lead responsibilities when needed: coordinate workflow, mentor peers, and support unit efficiency
• Troubleshoot sterilization and reprocessing equipment and escalate issues to ensure patient and staff safety
• Champion aseptic technique and sterile handling to support surgical services and patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of travel sterile processing experience required (experienced travelers only)
• Charting experience with Epic is required
• Preferred certifications: CBSPD, IAHCSMM, or HSPA
• Hands-on experience with flexible endoscope reprocessing, AERs, Steris and Sterrad systems
• Experience assembling sets/trays and working with SPD instrument tracking (SPM)
• Lead experience preferred — willing to take on extra responsibilities
• Able to complete a 40-hour orientation as required by the facility

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterile Processing fundamentals: decontamination, sterilization, aseptic technique
• Flexible endoscope reprocessing and high-level disinfection (HLD)
• Operation and monitoring of Automated Endoscope Reprocessors (AER) and ultrasonic cleaners
• Steam sterilization processes and biological/chemical indicator monitoring
• Experience with Steris and Sterrad sterilization systems
• Instrument tray assembly, loaner/consignment tray handling, and proper labeling
• Familiarity with Sterile Processing Microsystem (SPM) and Epic charting
• Comfort working in acute hospital surgical services and with specialty equipment including robotics
