Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for nuclear medicine studies and perform high-quality diagnostic scans following established protocols
• Administer radiopharmaceuticals safely and document dosing and patient reactions
• Operate and troubleshoot imaging equipment including gamma camera, dose calibrator, survey meters, well counter, and thyroid uptake probe
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure proper handling and storage of radioactive materials
• Communicate findings and collaborate with radiologists and physicians to support accurate diagnosis and patient care
• Participate in teaching and instructional activities to support staff development and education
• Adhere to radiation safety protocols and use required PPE including leaded protective equipment

Qualifications

• Current Hawai‘i Nuclear Medicine Technologist license (required)
• Current BLS/HCP certification (required)
• One year of Nuclear Medicine experience preferred; new graduates welcome
• Demonstrated knowledge of nuclear medicine physics, radiopharmaceutical administration, safety protocols, and equipment operation
• Strong communication skills and critical thinking; ability to interact with patients of all ages
• Able to perform physical demands of the role: standing, walking, lifting/carrying up to 30 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs

Education

• Current Hawai‘i Nuclear Medicine Technologist license
• Current BLS/HCP certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Radiopharmaceutical administration and radiation safety
• Patient preparation and diagnostic imaging procedures
• Operation and troubleshooting of gamma cameras and dose calibrators
• Use of survey meters, well counters, and thyroid uptake probes
• Basic life support and emergency response (BLS/HCP)
• Clear communication with radiologists, physicians, and multidisciplinary teams
• Attention to cleanliness, organization, and regulatory compliance
