Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiography studies including transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, color-flow Doppler, transesophageal, exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography
• Administer and interpret other cardiac diagnostics such as EKGs, Holter prep/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress tests to provide high-quality diagnostic information
• Operate and maintain cardiac diagnostic equipment and cardiac stress systems, ensuring optimal image and data quality for cardiology physicians
• Accurately schedule, process, and charge studies within hospital information systems to support billing integrity and workflow efficiency
• Implement infection control and aseptic techniques, and ensure proper disinfection of equipment to maintain patient and staff safety
• Provide age-specific care across the lifespan with special attention to neonatal and pediatric patients
• Serve as a professional resource to physicians, nursing staff, and other hospital personnel, and offer clinical guidance to students and trainees
• Perform other duties within the scope of the role to support the cardiology service line and patient care needs

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Successful completion of a cardiovascular sonography certification program and/or a minimum of 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Experience in a hospital setting is preferred
• Extensive pediatric and neonatal echocardiography experience preferred
• Comfortable providing preceptorship and clinical guidance to students

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer credential (required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography techniques including M-Mode and color-flow Doppler
• Exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography
• EKG acquisition and Holter monitoring and analysis
• Operation and troubleshooting of echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs, and Holter monitors
• Scheduling, processing, and correct charging of studies within hospital information systems
• Infection control practices, aseptic technique, and equipment disinfection
• Ability to perform age-specific cardiac diagnostic testing, particularly neonatal and pediatric care
• Strong communication skills for collaborating with physicians, nurses, and trainees
