Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans for residents
- Administer medications and therapeutics accurately and document in the EHR
- Provide leadership on shift by delegating, supervising, and supporting CNAs, LPNs, and other staff
- Respond calmly and competently to emergencies and make sound clinical judgments
- Coordinate resident care with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Teach residents and families about conditions, treatments, and discharge plans to support positive outcomes
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and resident progress
- Participate in quality improvement, staff education, and adherence to infection control practices
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start; agency staff must have an active Alaska license)
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Clinical Competency assessment and High Risk Competency (as required by employer) within specified timelines
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred, ideally in long-term care or similar setting
- Able to lift/move up to 50 lbs and meet physical demands of the role
Education
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma in Nursing)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong nursing assessment, care planning, and documentation skills
- Proficient in medication administration and understanding of pharmaceuticals
- Infection control practices and long-term care standards
- Experience with EHR/charting and accurate progress note documentation
- Ability to operate and monitor basic and specialized equipment, including AED
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Leadership skills for charge nurse responsibilities and team coordination
