Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and continuously monitor laboring patients to ensure safe progression and outcomes
• Interpret fetal monitoring and communicate findings clearly with the obstetric team
• Provide hands-on labor support and education to patients and their families
• Assist with deliveries and immediate newborn assessments in collaboration with providers
• Respond quickly and calmly to obstetric emergencies and escalate per protocol
• Administer medications, manage IVs, and document care accurately in the EMR
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create patient-centered care plans
• Participate in orientation and precepting to support new team members

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure in Louisiana (or compact RN eligible) required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and ACLS preferred or willingness to obtain
• Prior experience in Labor & Delivery preferred; new graduates with strong maternity clinical experience are welcome to apply
• Strong assessment, clinical decision-making, and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-acuity environments

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Completion of relevant clinical rotations or clinical experience in maternity care preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
• Fetal heart rate monitoring and external/internal monitoring interpretation
• Skilled in labor support techniques, maternal/newborn assessments, and postpartum care
• Medication administration, IV management, and emergency response
• Excellent teamwork, patient education, and family-centered care abilities
• Comfortable with multidisciplinary collaboration in obstetrics and neonatal care
