Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform full assessments and triage for patients of all ages in the urgent care setting
- Provide telephone triage and advice, documenting assessments and care plans clearly
- Administer medications (oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, IV push/infusion) and initiate/maintain IV therapy
- Operate and monitor specialized equipment and respond to emergency situations with life-saving procedures
- Coordinate referrals, track outcomes, and collaborate with care teams to remove obstacles to timely care
- Maintain accurate documentation/charting, infection control practices, and clinic stock/equipment
- Support clinic quality improvement efforts and participate in team development and special projects
- Educate patients and evaluate understanding of care instructions and follow-up plans
Qualifications
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must hold an active Alaska license)
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Minimum 2 years general nursing experience, including at least 1 year in ambulatory or urgent care
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
- Clinical Competency (SEARHC) to be completed within 3 months of hire; High Risk Competency within 3 months and annually as required
- Ability to perform age-appropriate vital signs, assessments, and life-saving procedures
- Strong communication, critical thinking, multitasking, and time-management skills
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (required)
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum)
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and triage (in-person and telephone)
- Medication administration including IV push/infusion and IV therapy management
- Documentation and charting in EMR systems
- Infection control and clinic safety protocols
- Referral coordination and care navigation
- Use and maintenance of medical/specialized equipment
- Patient education and customer service in a multidisciplinary team setting
